Pharmacist (temporary provision and establishment)

If you want to work at a Danish pharmacy or hospital pharmacy, you need to have a permission from the Danish Medicines Agency.

You must submit a written application to the Danish Health and Medicines Agency for permission to pursue the professional activities of a pharmacist at a community pharmacy or hospital pharmacy in Denmark. There is no application form.

Documents to be enclosed with your application:

  1. A certified copy of documentation of name, nationality and date of birth. (E.g. in the form of certify copies of the relevant pages of your passport).

  2. Either:

    1. A certified copy of the diploma mentioned in Annex V, point 5.6.2 "Evidence of formal qualifications of pharmacists" of Directive 2005/36/EC, and accompanied, where relevant, by a certificate.

    2. If your diploma does not correspond to the titles specified for the country of training in Annex V, point 5.6.2 of Directive 2005/36/EC, your diploma must be accompanied by a certificate issued by the competent authority of the country of training, certifying that your diploma in pharmacy has been issued for the successful completion of training in accordance with the provisions of Directive 2005/36/EC and that your qualifications are treated equally with the training specified in the Directive.

    3. If your diploma was issued before the reference date mentioned in Annex V, point 5.6.2 of Directive 2005/36/EC, and your diploma concerns a training course which was started before this date, you must enclose a certificate with your diploma, stating that you have been effectively and lawfully engaged in the activities of a pharmacist in the EU/EEA or Switzerland for at least three consecutive years during the five years preceding the award of the certificate.

  3. If you have changed your name since you were awarded your diploma, you must enclose a copy of your marriage certificate or a change of name certificate.

  4. In the event that a Danish authority or educational establishment has previously assessed your training as a pharmacist and your qualifications, you must enclose copies of any such assessments.

All copies of original documents must be certified true copies. Embassies, police, respective university/educational institution or notary public can certify copies. The authority in question must stamp and sign each copy and confirm that the copy is a true copy of the original document. Private individuals cannot certify copies.

If the documents are not in Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English, you must submit a certified translation of the documents into either of these languages. Translation must be performed by one of the following:

  1. The educational institution or the authority that issued the document

  2. A state-authorized translator. Translator's name and stamp must be legible. Should the stamp not be in Danish og English, a state-authorized translation of the stamp is required. The translator must seal the translation together with the document in the original language. The Danish Medicines Agency may in some cases accept other translations.

The Danish Medicines Agency may at any time ask you to submit further documentation necessary for our assessment of your application, just as we may ask you to present us with the original documents.
