Fitters, workshops and vehicle manufacturers, that are going to install, check, inspect or repair analogue, digital or smart tachographs must be authorised.
What can you get an authorisation for?
You can apply for an authorisation to install, check, inspect or repair tachographs.
You can choose between the following authorisations:
A-authorisation: Authorisation to install, check, inspect and repair analogue tachographs.
D-authorisation: Authorisation to install, check, inspect and repair analogue and digital tachographs.
I-authorisation: Authorisation to install, check, inspect and repair analogue, digital and smart tachographs.
An I-authorisation can be limited to specific manufacturers of smart tachographs.

You need an approval report, which must be without remarks. The approval report must be drawn up by an authorised supervision company after visiting the address of the fitter, the workshop or the vehicle manufacturer. The approval report is documentation for the fulfilment of the requirements listed in Annex 1 of the Executive Order by the fitter, the workshop or the vehicle manufacturer and that they have a quality management system.
The approval report from the supervision company must not be more than one month old when the application is submitted.
When applying, you must give your consent to the Danish Road Traffic Authority so they can gather information on you from the Criminal Register. If the applicant is a corporate, or if the owner of a sole proprietorship is not the day to day manager of the business, the Danish Road Traffic Authority will gather information on the day to day manager in the Criminal Register, after obtaining the permission from this person.
You need to document that your staff is appropriately educated. This is done by sending their diplomas which must be issued by an approved educational institution.
You need to confirm that the fitter, workshop or vehicle manufacturer is not in bankruptcy proceedings or liquidation.

How long is an authorisation valid?
The authorisation is issued as an authorisation certificate with an authorisation number. The authorisation is issued with a validity of 5 years.
It is a condition for maintaining an authorisation that the fitter and the workshop at least once every second year is audited by a supervision company, which is approved by the Danish Road Traffic Authority. The auditor must supervise their procedures for handling tachographs, including the security measures and the handling of the workshop cards.

The audit is a so-called “desk audit”, where you must submit material to the supervision company. The fitter and the workshop are thus obliged to provide the supervision company with all necessary information for the purpose of the audit.
The costs of auditing and preparing the auditing report are born by the fitter or the workshop.
Every year the Danish Road Traffic Authority carries out a number of unannounced audits to fitters and workshops.
