Offering gambling products and services in Denmark
Only individuals or operators licensed by the Danish Gambling Authority can offer gambling products and services in Denmark. Here you will find information on how to apply for a license to provide online gambling services in Denmark.
You can apply for different types of licenses for betting and online casino: an online casino license, a betting license, a combination license for both online casino and betting, and a revenue-restricted license.
Pursuant to the Danish Gambling Act, a license for online casino is required if the game involves:
A stake
A prize
An element of chance
Online casino includes roulette, black jack, baccarat, punto banco, poker, online bingo, and gambling on gaming machines as well as other games, which have an element of both skill and chance i.e. combination games. Backgammon, whist and guessing competitions are examples of combination games.
You can apply to the Danish Gambling Authority for a license to provide online casino in Denmark. A license is valid for up to 5 years. To apply, you must use application forms no. 2-01, Annex A (no. 2-02), Annex B (no. 2-03) and, if necessary, Annex C (no. 2-04). All forms are available as PDFs under Online casino on the Danish Gambling Authority’s website. Upon application, you must pay an application fee.
To obtain a license to provide online casino, you must comply with a set of requirements. Pursuant to the Danish Gambling Act, a license for betting is required if the game involves:
A stake (money or similar of a financial value)
A chance of winning a prize (all kinds of prizes)
Betting that involves stakes and prizes can only be provided in Denmark with a license issued by the Danish Gambling Authority.
You can apply to the Danish Gambling Authority for a license to provide betting in Denmark. A license for betting covers both online and land-based sales of betting products and is valid for up to five years. You must use the application forms no. 2-01, Annex A (no. 2-02), Annex B (no. 2-03), and if necessary, Annex C (no. 2-04). You can apply to the Danish Gambling Authority for a revenue-restricted license to provide online casino or online betting.
Revenue-restricted licenses are different from the 5-year licenses because:·
The license is only valid for up to one year
The gross gaming revenue must not exceed DKK 1 million
To apply for a revenue-restricted license, you must use application forms no. 1-01 and no. 2-02. All forms are available as PDFs under Revenue-restricted licenses on the Danish Gambling Authority’s website. Upon application, you must pay an application fee.
Persons or companies who do not live in or are established in Denmark or an EU or EEA country must appoint a representative in Denmark. The representative must be a Danish resident. If the representative is a company, the company must be established in Denmark and must be approved by the Danish Gambling Authority. If the representative is a person, use the form “Personal declaration, Annex A”. If the representative is a company, use the form Annex C.
